[print-me/] Bryan Densley is the owner and operator of Densley Sound. Their family moved to Eagle Mountain because they “love the openness and the outdoors, the farms, but also the fiber internet. Where I do a lot of remote work from home, and with my business, I transfer large amounts of data over the internet, that was definitely a must.” That was his short answer to why they moved to Eagle Mountain, but there was more to the story. “The long story is that we were considering upgrading our house because we knew with our kids we would outgrow it eventually. My wife saw this open house for a house out here in Eagle Mountain and one Saturday we decided to drive out here to take a look. She thought for sure it was way too far away and I wouldn’t be interested, but we decided to check out the house anyway. I did mention how far away it was from everything. We took a look at the house and I did like it. But honestly, it was during the next 24 – 48 hours that it really worked on me. I did some drive-time calculations to generally the more popular places we visit, such as family, other places I work. Turns out the drive times were roughly pretty close to what they already were for us in our house, so it really wasn’t as far away from everything as it seemed. We always kind of wanted to live in a more “rural” community, we just didn’t imagine it being so far to the west of I-15. But the more we thought about it, the more we loved it, and we know we are exactly where we are supposed to be.” the Densley family has lived in Eagle Mountain for just over a year, “we’re in an older part of town and have been so welcomed it feels like we’ve been here for a long time.”
The Densleys have been married for 10 years. They have 3 “very active and energetic boys.” “We like to go hiking together, or sometimes exploring as my boys like to call it. We love to watch movies, play games. We all love music, and that’s part of how my wife and I first met.” (If you want to know more about that story, reach out the Bryan to get the details.) Bryan graduated from BYU in 2011 with a degree in Media Arts with an emphasis in sound for film. He has a minor in business, “which has been a huge help because Irun my own business together with my wife.”
The business they run is called Densley Sound. ” I run a sound design business geared towards audio for film and television. That includes recording audio on set during the actual filming of projects (production), as well as editing the audio and cleaning up the dialog, adding sound effects, ambiance, music, etc (post-production). On the side, I also produce and record music.” Bryan continues, “I have a lot of projects that I’ve enjoyed working on. I do enjoy the variety, and if I have a project that I’m not too excited about, eventually it’ll be over and I’ll move on to a different project. Each project is so different and has its own set of challenges and rewards. I have really enjoyed working on Studio C, Ancestry Academy, and a recent feature I just finished called Josie Jane.”
Of course, after I found out what he does for a living and what his business specializes in, I had to ask if he had worked with anyone famous.
It depends on what level you consider “famous” or not. My industry revolves around “famous” people. It doesn’t happen every day for me, but yes I’ve worked on projects for/with Dan Reynolds and Imagine Dragons, Ed Harris, Sean Astin, Margot Kidder, Larry Thomas (the ‘Soup Nazi’), the cast of Studio C to name a few. If I haven’t worked with/met someone personally, chances are I have a colleague or worked with someone that has. My business is built upon contacts and networking with “Hollywood”.
Personally, Sean Astin is one of my favorite actors. I love his roles in the cult classic “Goonies” (1985) to the all-time classic of “The Lord of The Rings” (2001-2003). I also really liked his performance in the movie “Forever Strong” with Sean Faris. I will definitely have to do a follow-up interview with Bryan and get his impressions on the different actors he has worked with.
I asked Bryan if he had any advice to those that would like to get into his line of work. “I would definitely recommend getting as much training as you can and go to school for it. While education is very important, the real key in going to school is the networking and the experience in an academic setting. It’s a different career path than say a general education where you go to school, get trained, get an internship, graduate, and get a full-time job at some business somewhere. For what I do specifically, there aren’t a lot of “full-time” jobs out there, it’s all about networking and freelancing. When you do a great job and have great integrity, people enjoy working with you, and they recommend you to their colleagues. The majority of my first clients, and many of my current clients, were people I went to school with. I have a lot more I could say about what got me to where I am today, and would I say that currently, I’ve “made it”? No, I think there’s always room for improvement, always room for growth and for learning. Even now, I’m constantly listening to podcasts, and watching youtube videos, and reading books, anything I can to improve my craft and skill and get better at what I do. I feel like the sky is the limit, and I always want to be growing and improving.”
Bryan and the Densleys are one of the many great families that live in Eagle Mountain. Thanks Bryan for sharing and letting us into your world.
