The Utah County Sheriff’s Office recently announced via social media that they had taken Mosiah Vae Taumoepeau into custody, suspecting his involvement in 23 auto burglaries that occurred in the Cedar Valley. Reports on Facebook indicated that individuals had experienced smashed car windows and stolen property during both nighttime and daylight hours. It is noteworthy that two days prior, Taumoepeau and his attorney requested a second evaluation for competency in court, which was granted at the defendant’s expense. This evaluation relates to a previous incident in July 2022, where he was arrested for firearm-related charges, possession with intent to distribute, and a dangerous weapon offense. Additionally, Taumoepeau was previously arrested for shoplifting in September 2022 and criminal trespass in December 2022.
The Utah County Sheriffs Office (UCSO) reported June 21, 20222 at 8:45 pm. “Tue night – Wed morning @UCSO Deputies in @eaglemtncity took reports on 23 auto burglaries. Today citizens near Ridley’s saw Mosiah Vae Taumoepeau trying to get in cars. He was apprehended. Deputies recovered wallets, credit cards, and $800+ cash. He is in jail with $0 bail.” SOURCE
Cedar Valley Sentinel did a court search on Mosiah and found that two days prior, June 20th, the defendant and his attorney requested that the court give him a 2nd evaluation for competency. The court granted the request for the evaluation at the cost of the defendant and scheduled another hearing for July, 18th. His competency test is being conducted for an incident in July 22, 2022 where he was arrested for the Purchase, Transfer, Possession, or Use of a firearm by a restricted person, a 3rd degree felony. At the same time he was arrested for Threat or use of a dangerous weapon in a fight, a class a misdemeanor, as well as possession with the intent to distribute, a 2nd degree felony.
Mr. Taumoepeau also arrested in September 12, 2022 for Shoplifting, a class B Misdemeanor, and again on December 4th, 2022 in Saratoga Springs for Criminal Trespass and possesion of a controlled substance.
