On August 23, 2022, at around 11:30 am an RV was stolen from the Sunset Storage Lot in Eagle Mountain. The Sheriff’s department released the following press release:
“On August 23, 2022, around 11:30 AM, a gray Ford crew cab pickup, about model year 2007, with no license plates, entered Sunset Storage, an RV storage lot, in Eagle Mountain. A man was driving and a woman was a passenger. There may have been a third occupant. The pickup drove around the lot, backed up to a trailer, then left the lot with the trailer. Prior to entering the storage area, the pickup was seen on security cameras at the Holiday Oil gas station to the south. A woman who was a passenger in the pickup, entered the store and purchased some items, and was captured on store security video. The owner of the trailer discovered it missing on 8/29/22 and reported it to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. The value of the trailer is approximately $29,000.00.”
On October 8, 2022, the Sheriff’s department detained Dana Leigh Conley, age 45, of Salt Lake City Utah, as well as Matthey Allan Ruston age 42 of Salt Lake City. The couple was under surveillance by the Sheriff’s office. Deputies watched as Matthey entered the VASA Fitness Center in Saratoga Springs which is currently under construction. The Sheriff’s press statement is as follows.
After we posted about a stolen RV a concerned citizen contacted law enforcement saying they knew the woman in the photo. Now we are working on locating owners of the rest of the stolen property found with the originally reported stolen trailer.
*** PRESS RELEASE October 10, 2022 ***
After posting a press release (see below) about a stolen trailer on Utah County Sheriff’s Office social media pages on August 31 we received information from a concerned citizen who said they knew who the woman was in the photo from security video. Detectives began checking information about this person and were also able to identify the man seen in the security video. Dana Leigh Conley, age 45, of Salt Lake City, is the woman and the man is Matthey Allan Rushton, age 42, also of Salt Lake City.
On the night of Saturday, October 8, 2022, while conducting surveillance on Rushton and Conley, Detectives saw Rushton get out of a pickup at a VASA Fitness Center under construction in Saratoga Springs while Conley stayed in the car. Rushton entered and left the building several times. On one time coming out he was carrying property he was not carrying when he entered the building. As Rushton got in the truck and began to drive away a Sheriff’s Office Sergeant stopped the truck. Rushton and Conley were taken into custody without incident.
During interviews, Conley admitted to being in the same truck on August 23 when she and Rushton stole the trailer from a storage facility in Eagle Mountain. She also told the Detective she was involved with Rushton in the theft of two utility trailers and other property. Those trailers, with a very large quantity of stolen property, were located in a remote area of Utah County near Holdaway Canyon. That is located in the southwest area of Utah County in Cedar Valley, south of Twelve Mile Canyon. There was a fourth trailer at that location which Conley said she knew nothing about.
The value of the RV is approximately $45,000.00. We originally reported it was valued at approximately $29,000.00. With this trailer, the three other trailers, and the stolen property, the total value of the stolen items is approximately $70,000.00. We have been unable to identify an owner for one of the utility trailers that was recovered. The other trailers and some of the other property have been returned to owners of those items.
Neither Rushton or Conley currently have jobs. Rushton has an extensive Utah criminal history. His convictions include vehicle theft, weapon possession by restricted person, theft, drug, assault, and other charges.
Saratoga Springs Police booked Rushton and Conley on burglary and theft charges for entering and stealing items from VASA Fitness in their city.
Rushton and Conley were booked into the Utah County Jail early Sunday morning by UCSO Detectives on the following charges each:
-Possession of stolen vehicle x 3, 2nd degree felony
Both Rushton and Conley are being held on a total of $36,000.00 bail. Rushton is also on probation and violations will be addressed with the Utah Department of Adult Probation and Parole.
