On May 4-5 the Utah County Sheriff’s Office and the Utah Highway Patrol conducted a motorcycle traffic blitz in Eagle Mountain. 4 Deputies from the Utah County Sheriff’s office and one Utah Highway Patrol Trooper participated in a motorcycle traffic blitz in Eagle Mountain
The blitz was conducted in Eagle Mountain on May 4-5 during the hours of 1:00-7:00 pm. According to Sargeant Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff’s office, there were some interesting stops. The stops included “one person traveling 86 MPH in a post 35 MPH zone and one high school student on a motorcycle traveling 71 MPH in a posted 40 MPH zone.
During the blitz, the following stops, warnings, and citations were issued.
- 101 Traffic Stops
- 76 Speeding citations
- 4 Seat belt citations
- 1 Stop sign citation
- 2 Expired registration citations
- 3 Driver’s license citations
- 1 Cell phone citation
- 26 Warnings for various violations
Sergeant Cannon explains that they, “regularly work cooperatively with UHP and other agencies in focusing on problem areas for traffic violations. This particular operation was planned several weeks ago. it is only coincidence that it was conducted two days after the tragic loss of the two young boys in Eagle Mountain on May 2.” He continues, “One of the focuses for this blitz was conducting enforcement in areas where full-size police vehicles have a harder time maneuvering to stop violators. Thus the use of motorcycles.”
This traffic blitz was mentioned several times on different Facebook pages throughout the city. The concessions on those pages were positive, the average resident in Eagle Mountain felt it was good to see this type of police presence in the city, especially after the recent traffic deaths.
Thanks to the UCSO deputies, and the UHP trooper that made this event a good one. I can think of two people who probably wish you guys were not there. 86 in a 35 MPH zone probably came with a pretty hefty fine. And to the High School student that was pulled over for doing 71 in a 40 MPH zone, on a motorcycle, SLOW DOWN and be safe.

I’m so glad they did this! But I didn’t know about it. Thank you for writing this!
