Eagle Mountain residents and elected officials gathered on May 30th at 10:00 am at the Pony Express Memorial Cemetery, to celebrate Memorial Day to remember the military soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the freedoms we experience in America.
The program started with the posting of the colors by Scout Troop 111G and 111B. The music was provided by Vocal Expressions led by Jess Archibald as well as the bagpiper John Miner. John played Amazing Grace, America the Beautiful, and closed the Ceremony with Taps. and Vocal Expressions performed an Armed Forces Medley as well as the National Anthem.
The first speaker was Maddie Haslam the mayor of the Youth Council for Eagle Mountain.
Speaker Lonnie Peterson, a U.S. Army Veteran talked about one of his deployments in Iraq in 2004. He also quoted part of a letter by Abraham Lincoln.
Ewe Hansen, also a Veteran of the US army, talked about the time he was a little boy, about the age of 11, meeting the Americans for the first time in Germany when his town was occupied by US forces.
Mayor Tomwestmoreland closed the gathering with a few words.
