Empress of Kings – Elle Caldwell
I’m saying it: this is my favorite book I have read all year! I loved this book. It is so well written. The plot is gripping and holds you tight all the way to the end. The main character, Aeloy Netheraven, is such a great character! She’s a strong, fierce, capable female character which many authors try to portray but many fail. Caldwell has done an exceptional job.
Aeloy is born in the worst prison in the kingdom. She grows up on her own, fighting for sport and to keep herself alive. She works her way up to being the best of the best, or the Princess of the Pits as she is so aptly nicknamed. A wealthy benefactor hires her as a bodyguard. He turns out to be the prince of Annora, who is also being targeted by his wicked stepmother, the Mistaken Queen. Aeloy must protect the prince from murder attempts, figure out how to break a curse, and find out about her long forgotten past. Secrets run rampant in this thrilling fantasy.
I loved every minute of this book. It left me waiting eagerly to see what is next from author Elle Caldwell.
