I. Charlie Tautuaa
As a candidate for Lehi Mayor,
I have seen political officials come and go, frequently using the phrase “political experience” or asserting that “if elected, they would undertake various initiatives for our city”. However, there is no such thing as political experience when one is employed to serve the community. Moreover, “if elected, then you will act,” what has prevented you from doing so while already in office?
We have repeatedly encountered mere lip service, and the needs of our citizens have been dangled before them with the promise that they will be met, IF they vote for this particular candidate. Too often, candidates have served the community only to be seen, or gain votes for the next election cycle, or they have entered office solely to secure financial stability and health benefits that are not available to many of our taxpayers.
My experiences include but are not limited to:
- Military; managing billions in funding and equipment,
- Law Enforcement; witnessing both justice and injustice arising from the abuse of authority,
- Health Care Administration; observing the decline in the quality of health and care,
- Security & Investigations; recognizing what more could be done for the people.
In the past decade alone, I have observed a significant lack of accountability, consistency, and transparency; and I am determined to accomplish what a decade of waiting has not achieved;
- Housing: For the past decade, has not adhered to the fundamental principle of Supply & Demand. I am dedicated to curbing thoughtless and reckless growth, as well as increasing property taxes on specific types of buildings, to either generate additional revenue or diminish their appeal, thereby lowering the cost of living.
- Traffic Congestion and High-Density Housing: These should be evenly distributed throughout the city to enhance air quality and access to water. If local contractors are unable to achieve this, it is imperative to raise the standards required for construction permits until the essential needs (less traffic) are met.
- Political Office: This is a privilege not a right, and term limits will help mitigate corruption and empower citizens to effect change. Furthermore, it is a role meant for service and does not justify the need for healthcare benefits. If candidates seek office with the intention of securing a part-time position for full healthcare coverage and retirement benefits, then political office is not the appropriate venue for such pursuits.
- Nature: It is crucial for our overall well-being, that we must prioritize the care and preservation of our parks and natural ecosystems. Additionally, maintaining a balance between development and nature is essential.
- School Safety – A clear boundary between politics and religion – Responsible spending – & more
We are living in difficult times, and I’ve experienced the struggle right beside you. It is vital for our citizens to educate themselves and vet candidates who focus on building a better future, not those concerned with their retirement portfolio and personal financial gains from holding office.
I took an oath to defend the Constitution of our Nation as a U. S. Citizen, my country as a soldier, and my community as a police officer; I am eager to extend my service to meet the needs of our fellow citizens.
Let us not conform to the status quo, but rather, have the courage to be unique; have the bravery to stand independently; and the boldness to dream big and dare to fail.
