When Maceys announced its grand opening in City Center, there were a lot of opinions expressed on Facebook about which store is the best. Maceys, Ridleys, or Smiths. We will probably still continue to see the battle rage on Facebook as people discuss the freshness of produce, meat, as well as prices.
When it was first opened, there was a pretty heated discussion on Facebook about the prices. Some said that Maceys was overpriced and that Ridleys was the best. And then there were some that were in the Smiths camp.
So I figured it would be fun to do a little detective work. It should be noted that this is not a scientific study and that prices change daily. But I sent a secret shopper to the Maceys and Ridleys in Eagle Mountain as well as the Smiths in Saratoga Springs to get some prices. These prices were from a couple of weeks ago, so they do not reflect current prices. This is just for fun to see which one at the time was the least expensive at the time.
We took a few of the necessities and jotted down what the prices were from each of the stores. The fact that Chocolate milk was included on the list should give you a clue as to the age of the Cedar Valley Sentinel secret shopper.

Eggs
Smiths – $3.40
Maceys – $2.99
Ridleys – $2.79
Milk (Whole Vitamin D – Gallon)
Smiths – $3.79
Maceys – $4.29
Ridleys – $3.59
Chocolate Milk
Smiths – $4.49
Maceys – $4.59
Ridleys – $4.79
Bread (Grandma Sycamore white)
Smiths – $3.79
Maceys – $3.99
Ridleys – $3.39
Conclusion
The prices are significantly different between the stores. Some of them have better prices on one item than the other item. I guess it really just comes down to convenience. If you live in Eagle Mountain, are you willing to drive to Saratoga Springs to save a few dollars? If you live in the Ranches or City Center will you drive to Maceys or Ridleys to save a few dollars?
