Eagle Mountain City recently announced, on the City Hall Facebook Page, the addition of a Glass Recycling bin located at Cory Wride Memorial Park. “Eagle Mountain residents may be interested in taking advantage of new glass recycling services now available at Cory Wride Memorial Park.”
“A dumpster, with mural created by EM resident Bill Louis, will be serviced on a monthly basis by Momentum Recycling. We did a resident spotlight on Bill back in 2020. Most types of glass are accepted. Glass recycled at this location will be used in the production of fiberglass insulation and material used for sand blasting here in Utah.”
The city also included a website you could go to for additional information: https://utah.momentumrecycling.com/frequently-asked-questions/
In case you wanted to know, you do not have to wash or remove the labels from the glass when you drop it off in the bin. They do ask that you remove any lids or caps from the bottles. Broken glass is also accepted. They do not accept windshields, pyrex, or broken light bulbs. Ceramics, porcelain, as well as mirrors, are also no goes.
The service is provided by Momentum Recycling, “Momentum Recycling expanded its operations in 2012 to include processing and recycling of post-consumer glass. The company’s state-of-the-art glass processing facility makes glass recycling easier, maximizes the diversion of glass from the landfill, and ensures that glass is recycled into high-quality end products. As of July 2012, Momentum Recycling became the exclusive glass recycler for Salt Lake City. This includes operating the first curbside glass collections program in Utah, and the processing of all glass collected through the city’s various programs.”
Interview with artist Bill Louis
Did you contact the city or did the city contact you for this project?
Another artist affiliate of mine, started painting recycle bins with Momentum Recycling for other cities. Momentum had reached out to several other cities including Eagle Mountain. My artist friend connected me to Momentum Recycling since he knew I was an Eagle Mountain resident. We all met together, the City, Momentum Recycling, and I, and talked about the need for glass recycling that Eagle Mountain asked for.
How long did it take to create the mural?
The design took a few hours. The actual application of the mural took me 2 days.
Did you do it at the company’s location or did they bring the bin to you to work on?
I painted it at the Momentum Recycling location because the dumpster itself had been recycled/refurbished for use. It was a process for them to fix it. It was originally green. They sandblasted it and had to weld certain parts of it to prep it for the artwork.
What is the inspiration behind the mural?
- The inspiration comes from the outdoor activities we do out here in Eagle Mountain:
- Horseback riding, Mountain biking, ATV riding, Hot Air Balloons
- As well as some nature in the mountains and deer.
Here are some more photos of the bin provided by Bill.
