The Eagle Mountain city council had some tough decisions to make during the 2018 calendar year. Including decisions around the new Facebook Datacenter, Cedar Valley high school, and of course more development. This is a summary of the 2018 City Council policy sessions, their attendance, and the actions that were taken at each of the meetings. Thanks to the members of City Staff and the City Council that help keep the City moving and growing.
Colby Curtis, a current member of the Eagle Mountain City Council, had this to say in summary of this year.
“Overall, this year has been a great one for Eagle Mountain. Our effective tax rate went down, our spending per resident went down, multiple of our valued local businesses built new or upgraded offices, and Facebook came to our community. We are prospering, and it is showing. Facebook has been a great member of our community thus far, having donated many times to residents and the city. For example, for Halloween Town, Facebook (and their construction company Mortensen) paid for and handed out 3500 10-dollar vouchers to residents for lunch, totaling 35,000 dollars. In addition, for Thanksgiving, they provided two dozen large Thanksgiving dinners to families in need here in our local community. I thank them for their generosity in our community. While we have seen much more development in the city this year, much of it has been previously vested, but despite that, staff and council have worked diligently and in multiple instances have worked with the developers to either decrease density, or to ensure additional roadways have been prioritized to help with the growth.”Fionnuala Kofoed, the Eagle Mountain City Recorder explains the difference between items that can be found in the City Council minutes. “A motion is typically used to approve general items. Ordinances are used to adopt Code and zoning. Resolutions are used for interlocal agreements, master development agreements, etc.”
