[print-me/] Social Media posts have been made about the decorations and construction that has been done for the new Cedar Valley High School. Courtney Johnson, the new principal for Cedar Valley High School, and team have been working hard to get the school ready for its opening. Courtney said, “We are trying to make this school special for the kids. We want them to feel that they are worth the effort.” And she has been able to pull some strings to get things donated that will make the school a place that students will be proud to graduate from.
Recently she was able to get airplane parts to decorate the school with. These parts include seats, fuselage cutouts, and a circuit panel. What a lot of people don’t know is that the school did not have to pay for any of these items. Jet Blue donated all the air plane parts that will be used. Courtney continues, “As far as the jet blue chairs, a company in Orem is donating several thousand dollars to re-upholster them.” Their Facebook page shows them, “Loading up more airline seats and taking them to Craftsmen to get reupholstered. Thank you Craftsmen for your generous donation of doing these at cost for us!”
Courtney continues, “We are being so careful.” when she is asked about the cost of the decorations that are being used. Most people also don’t know that the logo, mascot design, and style guide were ALL donated to the school. “If you look at what a simple logo typically costs you are looking at $2,500. Ours was much more extensive than that and what we had designed would have cost thousands of dollars. We estimate at least $10,000. The mascot, (our aviator kestrel) design saved us $1,500 because we didn’t have to pay the mascot company to design it.” The High School recently revealed its Mascot, Logo and style guide. Courtney talks about the grand reveal, “We had over 350 people attend our logo reveal party where we gave prizes for the winners of the mascot submission contest. We also had prizes for the paper airplane contest and all of those (for the paper airplane activity) were donated by local businesses.”
The school is set to have more aviator style things for around the school. Courtney talks about an actual airplane that has been donated that they plan on using as a monument outside the school. “We were given a free small BD5 airplane that we would like to place outside somewhere like a sculpture of some sort. We are still trying to get an aircraft from a museum, but because they are trying to get it through government surplus, it’s taking some time.”
There was even an unnamed donor that purchased everything that was needed for the high school last year related to the cost associated with administrative purchases. Courtney continues, “We are working with local businesses to help cover cost for future Aviator items.” If you are a business or individual that would like to help Courtney and her quest to make the High School a place Eagle Mountain Residents will be proud to attend, I am sure she would like to hear from you.
