Are there any other experiences or suggestions you would like to share related to health, safety, and inclusion in Eagle Mountain City?
- What does our city do for Pride? Would love to see pride celebrated in some shape or form.
- we need more autism-related services here
- More community education for diverse populations; more city-sponsored community activities; free or low-cost activities for children such as dancing (swing dancing, etc.) or life skills classes (baking, cooking, etc.) Build a central community center to house these activities.
- No
- Mask requirements… transportation options like bus lines out here
- The roads are comparatively amazing out here. Very little traffic!
- Gyms/fitness center. More walking/hiking trails. More upscale restaurants
- More regulations on children riding motorized small vehicles in the street.
- Nope
- Please make masks mandatory
- N/A
- Clean up and take better care of un improved areas in city center. Especially around landing and mountain view sub divisions. This is a fire hazard and affects our safety.
- I don’t know if this applies, but people are crazy drivers. I’m afraid to let my kids out in the neighborhood due to how fast people drive. I feel that there needs to be more cops monitoring people speeding and inattentive driving. I’m afraid to let my teenager drive.
- i Think there needs to be a little more diversity around the are! More local businesses as well
- Na
- We love living here and the people here. This is a great community!
- “Most of the people who come out here to live do it because they want this type of lifestyle. I’m worried with all the new houses being built, that we’ll now be just like everywhere else.”
- I miss em days this year! It’s been such a great tradition.
- COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER
- I feel very comfortable and safe living in Eagle Mountain Ranches!
- In my opinion, people always remember the bad and have a hard time remembering the good. Just like they remember the ONE bad experience at a restaurant but don’t mention the 20 good experiences. So I think this survey might get a lot of negative responses but that will not accurately reflect the majority of Eagle Mountain citizens.
- With the Covid-19 outbreak, I have seen many neighbors visiting with family and friends without social distancing. This is very concerning. Also, there is a park in our neighborhood that everyone congregated in through out the day and th ere is also no social distancing happening, no masks being worn and kids are playing on the same equipment without any precautions being taken. I fear for my neighbors and their families for not taking this virus pandemic seriously.
- Remember who we are as Americans. Don’t buy in to the new “hate ourselves” fad just because it is popular on the internet.
- The one thing that bothers me, not just in Eagle Mountain but a lot of places in Utah, is that people do not watch their young children well enough. There is constantly children ages 2 and up with absolutely no adult supervision. Kids 2-5 walking around the neighborhood with no adult in sight. A child around 3 almost rode his little balance bike into the road in front of my son. It is insane. I drive 10 miles an hour in my development because of this. Another thing is the speeding on Ranches Parkway.
- My main concern is kids going back to school and spread of germs from illnesses in general and school and parents jobs not allowing sick people to stay home without loss of pay or kids being reprimanded for missing school or work so parents as they did before take sick kids to school to spread illnesses and parents go to work sick (daycares and schools need to be able to stay open right now to support working parents and can’t if kids and adults can’t or won’t stay home to avoid spread of illnesses)
- We just need more access to therapy and hospitals for emergencies
- Mandate that EM city employees wear masks when in proximity to residents.
- Remember non-majority culture people matter too.
- It would make me feel safer if more people took the covid 19 virus more seriously. A lot of people I have encountered choose not to believe the science and say it is a hoax or that wearing a mask and limiting social gatherings is against their rights. So they choose not only to not wear a mask and social distance, but to make fun of the people that do in public or to purposefully get close to you in a store.
- “Generally, our experiences have been positive in Eagle Mountain, but I think there could be improvements in respect for others’ property and safety laws. We live on a corner with a stop sign and probably 80% of vehicles do not stop. I have little children that play outside, and our neighborhood streets are busy with children at play. Late night fireworks outside of approved days keep me and my family awake. My park strip trees get kicked over and their support stakes broken. Parking on streets limits 2-way traffic and visibility of children at play. I would love to see these things improve. I appreciate how willing and quick our community is to help others in need.”
- Encourage kindness and diversity and calm level-headedness!
- Covid quarantine has been so detrimental to me and my kids
- Id like to have more social activities and events. Covid19 notwithstanding but when things are better. More social clubs would be fun too. Like adult Lego or walking club etc.
- I love the trails so my family and I can take walks and bike rides without being in busy roads.
- Bring some of the programs/businesses to city center instead of the ranches
- Indoor sports facilities and aquatics would be great
- Continue outreach and support for minorities, add visibility to these communities via increased inclusion in city events such as pony express days and use avenues such as the news letter to draw attention to ways citizens can support each other in these trying times. Seek additional input perhaps through a community diversity representative/council to aid in fostering closer involvement of marginalized groups.
- There needs to be something for teens to do
- “Not with COVID19. REALLY wish we had a grocery store in City Center, and public transportation for those of us who desperately need help. ”
- We need more trees ASAP
- Stay focused on making our water and roads better… that’s where I really need a city to work. I’d prefer we stop so much dense housing in favor of allowing more basement apartments. I hope we don’t become the West Valley City of Utah county but it appears we’re headed that way. Alternatively if we keep lots a little larger and density down we can be more like Bluffdale.
- Work toward getting out own post office so we stop getting other peoples mail. It happens all over the city and its a problem. It happens with shipping companies too. We have put in several request to only have thr mail of people that live in our home delivered to us but we get mail that isn’t ours on the daily.
- None
- The walking trails are not kept up and over grown. Fallen down tress. It would be nice to be able to get out and walk
- It’s frightening how many people mention guns as solutions on Facebook groups. For example people mention birds nesting or dogs not on leashes and there’s always people mentioning using guns to solve the problem. I don’t want to be out with my dogs in case someone finds us “threatening” when in reality they are people who probably just find joy in killing
- We need more support for women, children with autism, and single parent homes
- The water is nasty. I’ve never cooked with or drank the tap water since moving in 5 years ago.
- I think people are judgemental, they don’t ask questions. Even in QPR, people don’t really respond unless they trust. People are expected to be perfect. My family has suffered greatly and most of it is from covid and things that have been thrust upon family, such as home schooling. The city has not made it easy by shutting down parks.
- I would like to keep the small town, slow pace atmosphere with lots of outdoor paths, etc….
- Get some hospitals, and clinics
- Being back grab n go meals, please! That helped us save money of groceries that we really need to use for bills.
- Not at this time
- We, the people of Eagle Mountain drive like a-holes. Tailgating, racing to get to the front at bottlenecks, running stop signs, speeding and etc. I am guilty of these at times as well. I am trying to be better, but most days it feels like I’m the only one. I wish the city roads were better/more heavily patrolled. I think this could help calm the over aggressive driving habits of myself and others. I REALLY HAYE DRIVING THROUGH OUR CITY.
- “I know the vast majority of the residents in Eagle Mountain are staunchly against high density housing, but to me that is economic discrimination. Not everyone can afford a huge house on a huge lot. It feels exclusive to me to only attract people of a certain economic status. Affordable housing is already hard enough to find for so many and I feel like it is perpetuated when we don’t provide more affordable housing. Every time I’ve seen opposition to this I feel like those residents and city officials are saying that me and my family were not welcome because we didn’t fall into a certain economic category. And frankly, my experience is that the residents and families here who fall into a lower economic category seem to be better, nicer people and neighbors than those who live in the huge houses with the huge yards. Also, I feel that there needs to be more opportunities provided for our public library to diversify their collection. They do a fantastic job with what they have, but with more city support they’d be able to do so much more. Libraries are an essential part to any healthy community and are a strong indicator of a healthy democratic society. ”
- Masks should be required in public
- The more multi unit housing that has come we do not feel as safe here. We have made plans to leave Eagle Mountain because of the massive amount of multi-Unit housing that has come. Unfortunately the people that occupy those units aren’t invested in safety, nor are they invested in the future wellbeing of the community.
- Make it mandatory to wear a freaking mask. The fact this is not happening is a damn ridiculous nightmare. This disease would spread much slower if people wore masks and it doesn’t matter what people feel about their “freedoms”. We made smoking in indoor spaces illegal because it’s killing people. We require seat belts while driving because if you don’t, it kills people. This is no different and the fact some people are using it as a political issue is absurd. I have family members that are in high risk categories and at this point just going to the damn store to get food is gambling with their lives. The city needs to grow a pair, make masks mandatory, and if anyone speaks against it tell them to shut the %$#@ up.
- I have been happy with the Sheriff’s Office and the deputies, however with as large of a city as we have become, I believe it is time to organize our own police department. Having our own gives us much more ownership into the department than we have now.
- Dint start changing or removing names and flags because of the black lives matter movement. This is our history and it should be remembered and honored for the men and women who lived and fought through it
- Roads are a hassle with traffic, including all of the traffic lights being added. More access roads for population increase are needed for access to hwy 73.
- Not so far.
- always cater to the Latino population. there’s a lot of us out here
- I appreciate the quick responses from law enforcement.
- What if…mask wearing was incentivized? Think about all the ways this could be done and how it might benefit our community.
- More open conversations about racism in our community and how it impacts others. Pretending it doesn’t exist or that is ok does not help us. It creates walls.
- I feel like Eagle Mountain is a wonderful city that has the best interest of its citizens at the forefront of all they do.
- Do not overreact to what is occurring in our nation. This is highly orchestrated. We need law and order returned.
- The only issues we have really had specific to Eagle Mountain City is with the facebook groups that have been created. Eagle Mountain City Citizens is ran by a few really staunch mormon people who have banned several others for daring to have an opinion that is against the mormon religion, even they never shared that opinion on that specific page (they have trolled other facebook groups to find things that go against their own values). And the People of Eagle Mountain recently had someone constantly sharing every little thing about covid to keep the fear going, even though we all see the news and don’t need to get from that group. That type of stuff is what caused mental health decline. I ended up having to leave that group because I couldn’t handle the bombardment of covid posts. Not to mention one of their admins is incredibly rude to everyone.
- stop trying to please everyone.
- I miss the small city events of the past. They are too enormous and crowded now. Maybe do small grants to neighborhoods for activities (maybe all on the same day so it still feels like a city celebration?) instead of huge city ones that are too crowded to be enjoyed.
- I love being a part of this community.
- I love it here, everyone is loving and accepting
- Need to increase retail economic development
- While myself and family members have not been affected by mental health issues, accessibility to resources is a growing need that I see throughout our community.
- We haven’t had any negative experiences. We love how many people we know and haven’t gotten to know yet have stepped forward and supported us when we needed services.
- No one cares about the elderly
- Covid will always be around we NEED to get back to normal before it’s to late for some!
- Make an obligation to used face mask inside stores and public places
- I’d say about 90% of the people here do not wear masks which is ridiculous. With numbers on the rise, every effort to help decrease the spread should be taken.
- I would like to see less discrimination against people living in townhomes or condos from folks in single family homes. I constantly hear about how they don’t like “high density housing”, or how they blame neighboring townhomes or condos for garbage near their homes when it could have really come from anywhere. What they are really saying is that they only want in the area who fall in a higher income bracket. I find that sad and discriminatory.
- I would like to have a market for local fresh food and gardens to teach others about gardening and nutrition. A community garden would be nice.
- No.
- “curtail the over building, be more selective with what and where you build. Next advertise our city, NOT the developers. An example, the OVERLAND monument as you drive into “”City Center”” through Unity Pass, is an obnoxious insult to the Eagle Mountain Citizens. ”
- I am a little concerned with how few parks and green spaces new builders to the area are planning. We recently moved from the Ranches, where we felt there were several neighborhood parks, to Silverlake, where there are very few parks–and those that were in the plans were either discarded or cut down in size to allow more room for town homes. I’d argue parks and are vital to the health of our community, as is spreading out high density housing.
- Many of my friends here are Hispanics who feel discriminated against. Some of their youth have shared stories of being bullied at school. One solution to this is for us to all serve one another so we can see each other as people and not objects or make assumptions about someone’s legal status. Culture exchange events are really helpful. I have not witnessed this kind of discrimination but have just heard those friends talk about it. I really love our city and feel really safe and happy here.
- We love it here
- Have people wear mask when out in public.
- The community needs each other we shouldn’t be limiting people from interaction. Adults have the cognitive ability to make choices for themselves. EM has done a pretty good job with allowing people to function as responsible adults overall.
- Please build a rec center!! We need a pool on this city!!
- We feel we have support on a limited, needs based, scale. We feel the community lacks a true community feel-neighborhood get togethers, emotional support, social interaction when there is no crisis.
- I love the Jr Jazz out here. I found it brought a lot of unity to our community. I also love our library. Even though it is smaller than other libraries, I think it is better. Our librarians are amazing.
- DOGS BARKING! Holy Hannah, there needs to be a crack down on dogs barking all hours of the day and night.
- All our doctors are in Orem/Provo area. I would love to see more specialists here.
- More parks!!!!!!
- I appreciate the library staff opening up curb-side pick up for books before any other library was doing it. I appreciate our parks and rec staff keeping up the quality of our parks, especially at Cory Wride. I appreciate the city opening up the splash pad despite some claiming that we would all get coronavirus and die if they did. I feel the city is doing a pretty good job balancing the requirements from the state/health department and allowing residents their liberty to choose whether to associate and gather or stay home.
- Wish it was easier to find out what’s going on in the city.
- Have city events, movie nights, fairs, fireworks as soon as COVid allows
- HOAs and the City’s endorsement and facilitation of their dysfunctional management has been a great burden (ie. City should not require approval by the HOA before issuing a building permit-the City is not a party to the HOA contract.). City should support and facilitate volunteer service without charging fees. If someone is willing to teach for free, participants should be able to participate for free.
- Fix the new pot holes on Pony Express!
- The HOA in our neighborhood (Cedar Pass Ranch) has been a nightmare since it began. The CC&R’s are impractical and the enforcement of them has been very subjective. Neighbors use the HOA to bully each other, causing undue stress and I’ll relations as a result. But the turnover in our neighborhood is so great that it’s difficult to get a majority vote to change anything.
- Sergant collette is a corrupt officer that is prejudice against LGBTQ members. He falsified his police statement. He would have became aggressive had I not started recording him on my phone.
- Pool recreation center
- “The gravel trucks on SR-73 are a nuisance. They are slow getting on to a fast highway, never have their loads covered and send rocks and dust everywhere. Also the median on Ranches Parkway is nice, but also dangerous leaving the neighborhoods as there are blind spots for oncoming traffic because of trees and the curvature of the road. It is dangerous especially for new drivers. ”
- I love our community
- Maybe set up a phone service that people can call in just to talk. Like those who are lonely, elderly, and other individuals.
- Keep up with city activities! My kids need fun too.
- How can we get bullying to stop in the schools? It is everywhere and it seems like teachers dismiss it and don’t know how to handle it.
- I didn’t get anything when my sister in law passed away but honestly what could people have done. She lived in rose park. We miss her and things but honestly on a city level I love how inclusive we are. Like when that little boy passed away we had a neighbor that put together a ride for this little boy it was so nice to see everyone together paying there respect. There is a lot of negativity but you’ll see that anywhere and that’s from a resident level not a city thing.
- “1\. Re: health, We’d love to see a rec center of some sort come out here. 2\. Re: safety, We live in Lone Tree and the plants in the middle of the road going up over the hill to City Center make it very hard to see when cars are coming. It’s always a gamble to exit our community going left.”
- Lots of kind people in our neighborhood. Most of the exclusion that I see comes from neighborhood social media pages & home owners associations.
- Some times it is hard for people with different back grounds to realy feel engaged and not feel included. Like those with kids and those with out kids; Those of different religious background; those of different financial standings. It is easy to feel excluded when few around you share your feelings and when you yourself are unwilling to over look other diffrances… but are expecting others to accept you for who you are. It is also easy to feel excluded when you are reluctant to become involved in the community, and only become involved when ot it is easy and comfortable for you not to change. Change is necessary for everyone. Excepting change is critical for every one.
- I wish police patrolled for fireworks violations. The entire neighborhood of Silverlake went crazy last year even with restrictions in place. Hope we don’t have another fire.
- I think that, once the pandemic is no longer an issue, it would be immensely helpful to have more opportunities for celebration and co-mingling of the different ethnic backgrounds represented by the inhabitants of EM. Opportunities for learning and respectful discussion would be wonderful, too. Although, I’m not sure exactly how one would go about that. Additionally, if events were not started off with prayer, that would give off less of an impression that community events (like the opening of the new elementary school, for example) are geared toward members of the LDS church (with everyone else being welcome, of course).
- H
- MANDATORY MASKS! People are NOT social distancing (splash pads are open?! WTF?!) and every single member of my household is at risk from these irresponsible science deniers. I’m trapped in my home because I can’t risk going anywhere unnecessary because people refuse to wear them. I’m lucky enough to have a yard to go into, not everyone is.
- Overall I think a lot could be done to unify services of Saratoga springs and eagle mountain. Providing a larger community with more diversity and support for residents who are not apart of the majority population (LDS, white, etc). I also think more university classes, support groups, etc would be beneficial however they need places to meet since there’s a large portion of the population that is not apart of the majority.
- Volunteer groups make such a difference
- I would like to see more opportunity for discussion and inclusion in our community.
- Traffic is super stressful.
- I have heard people denigrate the local police, and I’d rather see everyone support law enforcement. The community is safer with a strong police force who have the support of the public.
- I hope the mayor pushed the alpine district for the kids can go back to school as normal without mask and If anybody is a high risk, stay home and take classes online.
- I hope there is more focus on maintaining open space/ wildlife and limiting housing. I also hope that a grocery store would be a priority for businesses opening in city center.
- Safety–Many neighborhoods have a short sidewalk that connects a neighborhood sidewalk to the bike path on Pony Express. Ash Point does not, especially in the 2 fence openings on north side, just past the intersection at Saddle Rock Road and Pony Express Parkway. We walk through mud to get those 10 feet, and many tripping hazards. Please put a sidewalk to connect the neighborhood with the bike path.
- Do not include yourself on any EM facebook pages, people are downright mean around here.
- I wish Eagle Mountain City would care more and do more about people not taking care of their lawns.
- I think that the city has many things to do for everyone but I think that a recreation center would be amazing for the community.
- “Would the City be willing to help me put together an “”Inclusion”” BBQ/social gathering? I’m working on coordinating one for late July/early August depending on current guidelines. I’ve also been running a charity group/movement since March focused on helping local small businesses, and I’d love to have the city’s support!”
- We need a rec center.
- “I think there are a lot of ways to feel included in the community. We got involved with Girl Scouts for awhile, and loved getting to know people that way. Schools also provide a lot of opportunities for involvement and inclusion. Ultimately, the key to feeling included is to reach out and meet your neighbors and/or get involved in the community in some way. Our biggest disappointment with living in Eagle Mountain has been some of the construction that has been allowed to happen. The beautiful bluffs and hillsides are being overtaken by homes, and rows and rows of unsightly townhomes have gone in by Ridley’s. We are sad that there was apparently very little foresight that went into planning those neighborhoods. A well-planned, beautiful community should have been prioritized over property tax revenue.”
- There are many people who are extremely negative in Eagle Mountain. So much so, I removed myself from the citizens Facebook page, for example, to remove myself from them. I recommend some kind of action that teaches people to stop being so negative. I also recommend not giving so much voice to so much negativity. I recommend encouraging positivity, problem-solving, and acceptance. I recommend discouraging and silencing cynicism and bigotry that is so often expressed in city-sponsored locales (ie. city-sponsored Facebook page, which I know is different from the citizens Facebook page).
- I just would like to feel more included in the community. We aren’t religious and don’t have kids, so we feel excluded from many things as well as our neighbors aren’t as welcoming because of these things.
- As far as safety goes, I’d feel much safer if there was a traffic light at the intersection of pony express and lonetree parkway.
- Build a rec center like Lehi legacy center
- I think it will be very important to develop a more diverse cultural life here as Eagle Mountain grows.
- Neighbors should talk to each other about concerns before escalating issues to police or city because they may be misinformed or may misunderstand circumstances.
- I think the city should put up a fence on our backyard since it runs along a street (Sandpiper) and it is a cliff. The kids like to climb upon the rocks and they have fallen off and gotten hurt many times that I have lived here. They trespass all the time because of it.
- Building seems to be expanding at breakneck speed. Our water pressure is lower than it’s ever been (even with the new city pipes installed.)
- More restaurants, shopping
- I do like the parks that you have in the different neighborhoods, I feel that having “gathering places” like that promote getting together. I would still really like to see a dog park here, and feel that it would just be another place for people to gather and get to know each other, and make more friends or acquaintances.
- Build more restaurants and places to socialize out here. Most of the businesses are doctors and dentists. We don’t need anymore. We need fun things to do out here.
- Very judgmental environment
- Please make better wheelchair accessible walkways, we like the sunshine too. So many paths end suddenly or have very hard to navigate cracks, edges or transitions.
- Create an Instagram account of community events to better get the word out. If you need someone to do it for you, reach out to @snow.creative. She can help.
- Our experience is entirely covid tainted. We moved in the day the lock downs started. I don’t feel I’ve yet been given the opportunity to really “experience” our community.
- We need more meeting places for groups. I have a physical disability (which was not in your survey, as I don’t have an “illness or pain”). The only place people regularly meet is at the Thunder Lounge in Ridley’s – upstairs with no elevator. As it is, I’m not able to go to anyone’s home due to stairs, so having a more inclusive (free) meeting place would be a big deal.
- Black Lives Matter
- It’s really hard to get to know people and form connections when the social structure of the community is fueled by the LDS church. It would be really awesome to have more community events or groups that are more inclusive to other religious or non religious demographics.
- We need to teach others yo take care of their surroundings. Please keep the sidewalk in front of you house clean of toys and junk.
- Need better road system and a fishing pond.
- My biggest safety concern as an Eagle Mountain resident is wildfires.
- Better shopping and restaurant availability. We always have to go outside of the community to get many of our basic needs.
- Please STOP the madness on the high density housing. I have 72 units on 6.5 acres behind my house and they’re gross, they’re horrendous. I moved out here for space to breath and you guys approved some hideous, ugly high density units that look horrible. I feel sorry for the people that live in them.
- Non LDS members are treated like 2nd class citizens. I expect zero change for that problem..
- We have a wonderful community out here!
- It’s a little late for this, but I think asking about people’s religious affiliation would be enlightening, especially in regards to inclusion.
- regarding inclusion, it is important that we include ALL people regardless of background, culture or their religion
- It would be nice if there were more community get togethers that weren’t just ward get togethers. Not everyone is lds around here
- “Please close businesses where employees have tested positive for COVID Specially a dentist office with more than 1 positive employee ”
- There are members in our family who have removed their names from the records of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They were very much involved previous to this in the church and neighborhood. They had many, many friends. Since their beliefs have changed, many people have walked away from them.
- Get us a Rec center
- It’s difficult to not have a pool close by where I can get my exercise.
- Clinic or instant care facilities in city center
- Just don’t mandate masks and PLEASE let us get back to normal. The data we now have on this virus does NOT support the measures being taken. My family may have been lucky financially but many have not been so lucky.
- Blue Lives Matter!!!
- The city wants to pretend that it’s bike friendly, but it really isn’t. They have goofy, useless little paths that they think makes them bike friendly. But for serious cyclists or bike commuters, they’re awful. They’re allowing bike trails to be developed into housing (trails that even bring in bikers from other cities.) The Sheriff’s Department proves repeatedly that it HATES cyclists. I personally think that ALL law enforcement personnel should be required to have a minimum number of hours riding bicycles on the roads every month so they can learn the actual laws of cycling, the extreme dangers that cyclists face, and get a taste of their own medicine when they try to run cyclists off the road (yes, I’ve been run off the road by Sheriff’s vehicles myself!) Roads should be painted with markings indicating that bikes can take the entire lane because there absolutely is not enough room for a vehicle to safely pass leaving at least three feet of space for the cyclists. The roadsides are littered with tons of dangerous debris which is a serious and life-threatening hazard to cyclists. If people could safely ride bikes without constant fear of death by vehicles who think bikes don’t belong on the roads, people could be much more healthy and live in a safer environment.
- The only thing I hate about living here is the loud noise the army makes during the day with their trainings. It’s always during my daughters nap time and without fail wakes her up! It almost makes me want to move.
- “Being part of a church community (LDS ward) is probably the biggest contributing factor in feeling part of the community and feeling supported in times of need and in times of prosperity and happiness. Being involved in sports (football, Jr Jazz, and flag football) has helped us become acquainted with friends outside of our immediate neighborhood. Our school communities have also helped us become acquainted and involved with people in the community. ”
- We still do not have great ability for people in the ranches to get out in emergencies like fire. We still don’t have good enough roads to support our population base.
- Eagle Mountain is a mixed bag. I’ve seen the community come together many times. It’s also very divisive. I struggle Everytime I go to ridley’s and only about 10% of people are in masks. Just to use a recent example.
- Just that this is the best community I have ever lived in!!
- I think overall people are kind and inclusive and understanding in person. The comments made in local online social media forums can get contentious sometimes over simple questions or comments. As a religious person, Ive seen comments on social media that make me feel not welcome. For example, a person commented how happy they were about the new liquor store, and a person who doesn’t believe in drinking alcohol commented that she was not happy about it and then she was mocked for it. Then there was the splash pad issue about not being open on Sunday. Religious people were mocked for something they had no control over.
- would like to know if there is help for seniors or disabled residents
- Just don’t EVER make the dumb masks mandatory here!! That’s all
- Most of my experiences in Eagle Mountain are focused around our church attendance.
- The City is a place I live. My desire and ability to talk with neighbors, or create friendships is my own. The City doesn’t really change that, and I don’t expect them to. Providing parks is enough, I don’t have to go if I don’t want to.
- The most positive experiences I, and my family, have had here are with the community theater. It’s been such an uplifting, safe space. And it is easy to form relationships when working in that kind of environment.
- I appreciate the survey and hope the awareness that there are issues that affect our community leads to action and not just talk on ways we can improve and address things, specifically discrimination.
- Stop forcing people to wear face coverings, stop making people follow stupid restrictions that make no sense and allow people to live. Allow all businesses to function so they can provide basic human rights for their employees. Stop violating constitutional and human right.
- Covid-19 needs to be taken more seriously/stricter precautions. Please do not open the schools this year. Fireworks should be illegal period; only city fireworks allowed. Mountains/hills should be closed off to shooters and motorized vehicles to reduce fire hazards – as people have shown time and time again that they cannot be careful/responsible enough. Please build another safe outdoor gun range and encourage the public to use it. I believe there is one heading out to Cedar Fort, but we sure could use one located around Lake Mountain. Thank you for sending out this survey.
- Eagle Mountain needs to do better for its LGBTQ+ youth. I know many youth who are LGBTQ+ who really struggle in this city because of discrimination and prejudice. I think if the city got more involved and provided programs for LGBTQ+ youth and their parents, and held events where people in the community could learn more, that could really help our LGBTQ+ youth.
- “The dust level has risen so much it is getting harder to breath for my self and family members and even pets. As well as the bycicle issue of them always taking over the road and making is very hard on the tragic issues. There is no real places for the Elderly to go and participate in things.”
- Sometimes city center and ranxhes feel like 2 different places/ cities. I live Corwy Wride park as feel like it helps to bridge that gap as well as activities planned near our close to there.
- Speed bumps along American way to help slow down traffic
- “The racial tension is created and intensified by those of color. It’s been an issue here for about 10 years? When the biracial families coagulated in my area and couldn’t stop talking race and color. To the extent that I made a rule that if kids talked Color, then playdate was Over and we’d try again another time. The tension persists.”
- I am very happy with our status here in Eagle Mountain – if I had any suggestion it would be to continue to care for the residents of Eagle Mountain.
- I love the people, scenery, atmosphere and so many amazing people willing to drop everything and help anyone
- Someone who is willing to put the work into get a group of like minded people that suffer from PTSD, pain, and severe depression. To help care givers get a break. Get the veterans more involved in the community, and be committed to there mental health.
- Would love more street lights in smaller streets
- I love living here! I’m looking forward to when COVID 19 eventually ends and the city can hold events (like the annual egg hunt) again. Regardless, my family and I enjoy the community and friendly feeling in Eagle Mountain.
- People in Eagle Mountain are extremely friendly.
- Can’t wait til we get a grocery store in city center!
- The city should organize more of a reopening and share with us that we are all in this together, and that we will work thru these challenges together. We should be celebrating and highlighting any improvements that we can!!
- I wish there were more sidewalks in major areas. Many times there are no sidewalks outside of residential areas.
- Both my husband and I are very involved in the community. We love EM. We always say that living in EM is foundational to who we are today.
- People here are friendly and kind. I feel safe living here and I love it.
- I would like to see more people wearing masks to help protect their community. I would like to see less exclusion of those who dont know where to go to get the help they need and more community involvement on those needs, not just the church, not everyone in Eagle Mountain is Mormon nor do we want to be Mormon and this small community needs to realize that. I also would like to see more of the community helping their neighbors with needs rather than tearing them down to their churches or to each other.
- Better monitoring of law and order. Lots of young kids driving atv motorized golf carts and such that likely arent over 12\. Barking dogs and lack of people who respect their neighbor.
- When you are not LDS or an active member you are not treated well. When you family is different than the standard family you are not treated well. When you have a disability that is not visible you are not treated well. I hoped for a lot more when I moved here. Now I can’t wait to leave.
- You should have a international programm for people who come from other countrys and do not know how to speak english 🙂
- Our neighbors are great, very helpful and kind
- stop building
- More inclusion of non-LDS residents to neighborhood activities
- I did a community involvement class in SLC back in 2018 and even earned a grant to develop a project in the Salt Lake City Westside area. I am currently doing a new training as a Community Health Worker, I belong to the latinx community, I would like to be more involved with the city and be a voice of my community along with other diverse groups in our City
- I have never lived somewhere else where the community is closer knit. I truly think that is because of the type of people who live here. They are generally more concerned with those around them and it shows.
- I do think that more events and gatherings should be organized that aim at bringing together people of varying backgrounds. Regardless of religion or religious practices or lack of practice there needs to be more focus on including those who maybe different. We recently moved here and have met great people but can still very much feel the difference especially when searching for certain types of retail that we are wanting. Specifically coffee shops and the options to shop on Sundays.
- I can’t stand the army drills they do so close to our homes. It’s so loud! And wakes my children up from their naps. We honestly would not have moved here if we would have known about them.
- I would love a community pool for exercise and community building
- We moved here from Las Vegas. The ability to let our kids play outside and learn to ride bikes for the first time was amazing.
- I love the community sponsored activities. Ie movie nights, water slides, parade, etc. I love the family centered feel of EM!
- When I first moved to Eagle Mountain, I really felt like I got a sense of community through the citizen Facebook page.
- Hoping Eagle Mountain will open up more opportunities for people with disabilities. Our 21 yr old with Aspergers struggles everyday being badly harassed at his job for the past year. This would actually be the 2nd job since moving here that we have noticed discrimination. Voc Rehab can’t do much for work for him Since there isn’t anything here that pays enough that they consider a living wage. Discrimination is big here! We had a child in school that was told by the principal here and others in an IEP that ADHD is a fake disability and it’s just an excuse for being lazy. Of course we got an apology from the district. But to have a school teacher also be little a child in front of a class, throw his desk in front of a class because he can’t find a paper and to bully him daily. Then to have school administrators act the same way about a child with a disability is wrong. We have met several kids who have made racial slurs towards gays and blacks. Kids not allowed to play with other kids because of religion backgrounds. When we lived in west Jordan we never experienced a community that acted as this. Super sad to see this kind of behavior.
- Slightly off topic, but I’d like a dog park where I can let my pooches run and we can do things together like agility or obedience. It would improve my mental and physical health.
- Have information in Spanish
- “No real adult cares about inclusion. It’s just a hipsterism used by grown children who can’t handle being adults in the real world where making a living so your kids can eat is more important than whether or not Johnny wants you on his team. Get the government the heck out of our lives completely and let individuals deal with each other to form their own community in their own way. Safetywise, a minimal police force is all that’s necessary, sourced from people who live in the city itself so there is a sense of relation, friendliness, and accountability, for both citizen and policeman alike. Otherwise people need to be responsible for their own safety. Outsourcing it to others contains the seeds of tyranny. The same could be said of health. Your perview is pretty much limited to operating the sewer system (though we’re on septic because the city was too lazy to dig in our rocky neighborhood), maybe scraping splattered varmints off the road. Otherwise get the heck out of my way and let everyone take responsibility for their own health. Your concern is invalid and does more harm than good. In summary: get off my lawn.”
- Build a rec center!
- infastructure in and out of CC
- “NO fireworks allowed! Only let firemen set them off! NO 4 wheelers or any other motorized toys allowed w/ kids being under 18 yrs of age with NO license driving in neighborhoods!! This happens a lot in Silverlake.”
- “The Mormons are not welcoming at all….unless they think they can convert you. If no interest is shown, they exclude and unfriendly. We need more events that bring non-lds residents together.”
- I love how family oriented the city is. During non pandemic times there were so many child friendly activities to go to!
- CLOSER community and behavioral health services.
- We have absolutely loved our time in Eagle Mountain as a family. It has felt like home and we have felt pride for our city right from day one. My one suggestion/experience where I would have liked to build relationships with those in the community but couldn’t was my children’s sporting events. I would love to have them play sports here, but the programs are expensive and so it is more cost effective to go play in Saratoga Springs or Lehi. So that might be one suggestion for consideration (although I know that’s easy for me to say as I have not background knowledge in the cost of running these programs). But just a thought! But overall, thanks so much for a wonderful experience being a part of our city.
