Surprise reveal took place on May 15
Eagle Mountain, Utah (May 20, 2025) – Teachers at Pony Express Elementary School were surprised with a colorful $5,000 makeover of their teachers’ lounge, courtesy of Crayola and Walmart. The school was chosen as one of 24 schools nationwide to win a Creative Teachers Sweepstakes after participating in the annual Crayola Creativity Week program in January.
As part of the makeover Pony Express received $3,000 in Walmart gift cards from Crayola to purchase furniture and décor for the makeover and an extra $1,000 in gift cards from Walmart for the teachers to purchase additional items for their lounge. Crayola also provided the school with $1,000 worth of Crayola art supplies.
The lounge was designed with a blend of style, comfort and functionality to create an inspiring space where teachers can unwind and recharge, and that celebrates the remarkable influence they have on students. Volunteers from Crayola and Walmart’s Supercenter in South Jordan brought the teachers’ lounge to life with furnishings and items purchased with the donated gift cards. Sixteen associates from the South Jordan store participated in painting the lounge and assembling new furniture.
This is the second year that Walmart partnered with Crayola for the Teachers’ Lounge Makeover Sweepstakes to show support for local schools and teachers. The program donated a total of more than $120,000 to the winning schools. Schools were randomly selected from among eligible sweepstakes entries as part of Crayola Creativity Week.
Launched in 2022, Crayola Creativity Week is a free, creative learning event that supports Crayola’s mission to help parents and educators raise creatively alive children. During the annual seven-day program, Crayola provides schools, families, and libraries with inspiring and interactive content—delivered by world-renowned creative talent—that highlights the transformative power of creativity. More than 13 million students from all 50 states and 122 countries celebrate Crayola Creativity Week the last week in January each year, which is part of Crayola’s Campaign for Creativity advocacy program that speaks to the importance creativity as an essential life skill in preparing children for success in any career.
