EAGLE MOUNTAIN — The ocean is coming inland this February as Eagle Mountain Community Theatre prepares to present Disney’s beloved musical The Little Mermaid, featuring a cast of local performers and volunteers.
The production opens February 19 and runs through February 23, with evening performances and a weekend matinee, offering families in Eagle Mountain and surrounding communities a chance to experience the classic story live on stage.
Based on the animated film that introduced audiences to Ariel, Sebastian, and life “under the sea,” The Little Mermaid tells the story of a young mermaid who dreams of exploring the human world above the waves. The stage adaptation features well-known songs such as Part of Your World, Under the Sea, and Kiss the Girl, along with additional music written specifically for the Broadway version.
“This is the largest cast EMCT has had and it is projecting to be the biggest production EMCT has ever done with costumes, sets, and of course cast size.”
— Kylee Summer, who plays Ariel
According to EMCT, the production reflects the organization’s mission of providing community-centered educational experiences through the performing arts. The cast includes performers of varying ages and experience levels, supported by a team of local directors, designers, and volunteers. Kylee current EMCT secretary, and Ariel in this production, stated that, “the board and those that are on the production team are full volunteers and do this all for their love of theater.”
“I am so happy to have the opportunity to play the role of Flounder. I have learned new things about theater and made lots of new friends along the way. I love the cast of the show, they are all so friendly and welcoming. EMCT is like my second home. Come see the show, you’ll love it!”
— Avery Brown, who plays Flouder
Performances are scheduled for February 19, 21, and 23 at 7:00 p.m., with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on February 21. Tickets are available online through the theatre’s website.
Disney’s The Little Mermaid is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), which licenses the production for community and educational theatres nationwide.
