On January 2nd, 2023 the City Council of Eagle Mountain was presented with a budget amendment. Part of that amendment was to increase expenses so that the City could implement its rebranding and update the City vehicle, clothing, and logos with the new city brand.
New City Logos
Residents will start seeing the changes on January 16th. The City vehicles, website, mobile app, and new flag will all be done this month. The Major intersection street signs will have their city logo stickers changed. The rest of the signs will get an updated look during the next fiscal year.
I emailed Tyler Maffitt the Eagle Mountain Communications Manager with questions about the rebranding and the logos. Here are the responses he gave me to the questions I asked.
Why was a rebrand needed?
Eagle Mountain City has had four logos in its 26 years in existence. The most recent logo was the City’s longest-lasting brand – stretching nearly 14 years. Residents are likely to have seen the previous branding on street signs, on their utility bills, on social media, and throughout Eagle Mountain.
Due to its age, and the vast change that has taken place in Eagle Mountain over the past 14 years, the City wanted to take another look at whether the previous branding was still serving the needs of the organization and the community.
The City set the intention that we wanted to boost economic development, the quality of life of residents, and the performance and efficacy of Eagle Mountain City as an organization.
This new branding, which was a major undertaking comprising more than a year of research, design, planning, and now implementation by a core committee comprised of City employees, was adopted by the Eagle Mountain City Council in November 2023. I can say with confidence that it captures the essence of what it means to live in a place with young residents that value family, wildlife, the outdoors, and the convenience of living in an economically vibrant community. We want easy access to biking trails, hiking, and to maintain our small-town charm. At the same time, we want to set a tone that Eagle Mountain has a lot to offer in the way leadership, vision, and economic opportunity.
This is a beautiful and thriving place and we strongly believe this new branding says it all. We’re more than just another suburb, we’re an outdoor destination.
What are the goals associated with the new branding?
Eagle Mountain City identified several areas we wanted to target. These include: economic development, resident quality of life, and the performance of the City as an organization. Research suggests that each of these categories can be substantially impacted by effective branding and marketing. Making this a great place to live will require meaningful partnerships. The City hopes to capitalize on these effects in key target areas to achieve the outcomes that we believe will benefit the lives of residents. These desired outcomes are embodied in the new City tagline “Ascend Together.”
Eagle Mountain has a major role to play in the state of Utah as its population changes and we wanted to set a tone that we know who we are and what this community values. Apart from embodying the traits that this community prioritizes, Eagle Mountain now has a cool factor that will be challenging for other communities to top. This gives us an edge in each of the areas we’re looking to target, and there’s a strong belief that residents will notice positive changes over the coming years.
We’re not just replacing signage, this rebrand means embodying excellence in every way, and will soon have an impact on everything from the way we provide services, to the way we plan, to the way we approach major undertakings, to the values to prioritize within the city. This rebrand sets Eagle Mountain apart and sets a tone for what we want to accomplish while preserving and placing emphasis on what this community values most.
What was the cost of the project?
Rebranding the community cost $43,602. The benefits will be felt for the next two decades.
Was the branding done in-house or was an external partner used?
Eagle Mountain City contracted with REDKOR Brand Campaigns out of Springville, Utah. They were an excellent partner who listened to those sitting on the branding committee closely and delivered a product that exceeded our expectations. The branding committee was comprised of Eagle Mountain City employees. It was both a pleasure and a challenge, but it has brought about a renewed sense of purpose within the organization. We believe that will be felt in the community. We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve accomplished and hope to sustain this momentum for many years to come.
