On the first of September, the City Council approved a proposal to buy new snow removal equipment for Eagle Mountain. “Staff recommends that the City Council approve the purchase of two(2) International CV515 Snow Plow Dump Trucks from Rush Trucks on the State contract in the amount of $204,967.60.” Instead of buying a large snow removal truck, the City Staff requested the purchase of two medium-sized trucks. The proposal included some background as well as reasons why the City is requesting two medium-sized trucks instead of a single large truck.
Eagle Mountain City staff requested an additional 10-wheel snowplow dump truck in the FY 2021 budget, which was approved by City Council. For the last six months, City staff has been exploring the benefits of purchasing two medium-class snow plow dump trucks, as opposed to one 10-wheel heavy-class snow plow dump truck. The beneficial findings are listed below:
- Two medium-class snow plow dump trucks can be purchased with a lesser financial impact than one heavy-class snow plow dump truck.
- No CDL is required to operate the medium-class snowplow/dump truck, which provides the opportunity for more snowplow operators from other departments.
- Medium-class trucks are 4-wheel drive to increase vehicle control in winter weather.
- Medium-class trucks use approximately one-fourth of the fuel required by 10-wheel dump trucks.
- Medium-class trucks offer increased maneuverability for snow removal in cul-de-sacs, courts, and alleyways.
- Smaller trucks are ideal for small and/or delicate paving projects such as trail ways.
- The City will take possession of the medium-class snow plow dump trucks before this winter, as opposed to receiving the heavy-class snow plow dump truck at the end of the 2021 fiscal year.
The proposal was approved by the City Council with the consent agenda that also included. First Addendum to the Black and McDonald Professional Services Contract and the August 18, 2020 meeting minutes.
