City Wide Cleanup
Nothing says Spring like Spring Cleaning. There are a lot of cities that have city clean up days, and as part of that you will see city approved dumpster locations. You will also see a lot of dumpsters pop up around construction sites. But not all dumpsters are created equal. As part of the Eagle Mountain Cleanup day, there will be dumpsters available from the city for public use.
“Eagle Mountain City will provide several dumpsters for community use on May 13, 2017 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. This in conjunction with Community Cleanup Day, which will take place that same day from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. More information on Community Cleanup Day here.
The dumpsters are available for general household waste (no appliances, large pieces of furniture, mattresses, hazardous material, tires, etc). Please do not overfill the dumpsters or dump outside of the dumpsters. The dumpsters will be located off of Mid-Valley road and Pony Express Parkway (south of Frontier Middle School). If you have items the dumpsters cannot accommodate, the City offers two free dump passes per household per year that may be picked up at
the City Hall reception desk M-F from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.”
There are some laws that come into play with dumpsters. These dumpsters can be used by the public, but the dumpsters that are put out by construction companies or individuals are not to be used by the public. It does not matter if the dumpster is on public property (street or park) or on private property. If you do not have permission by the person who has arranged for the dumpster, you are legally not allowed to use the dumpster.
Chief Deputy Eric McDowell expands on this, “If a dumpster is located on private or public property and an individual does not have permission to place items with in it, or the dumpster has not been designated for public use, then technically it is unauthorized and deemed illegal. Individuals who are found not to be authorized to use said dumpster, could face charges ranging from Trespass to Theft of Services.
Though these types of complaints/incidents are infrequent, we(Utah County Sheriff’s Office) respond to enough of these calls to recognize the need to address the issue. Frankly, the main issue is that the owner/lesee of the dumpster incurs added costs associated with the unauthorized usage of these containers.
Eagle Mountain City’s annual Spring Cleanup is on May 13th and locations with designated dumpsters will be provided for public use. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office-Eagle Mountain Division appreciates everyone’s cooperation in regards to this matter.”
Two areas of Utah code cover the use of dumpsters that you have not arranged for delivery. The first would be Criminal Trespass, and Theft of Services. If you are caught using a dumpster that you do not have permission to use, you could face charges.
Help make Eagle Mountain even more beautiful by participating in its Clean Up day.
