The US Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is looking at making an area located along Highway 73 in Tooele County and the Cedar Valley near Eagle Mountain a special use area.
They are currently doing an Environmental Assessment with a project name of Fivemile Pass Special Area Designation. “The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Salt Lake Field Office is considering the designation of 17,927 acres of public lands in Fivemile Pass and the surrounding area, located along Highway 73 in Utah and Tooele Counties, as a special area with a fee-based, daily-use permit system, associated supplementary rules for site-specific conditions of use and rules of conduct, and new recreation developments and improvements.” This information is according to the BLM National NEPA Register. “The BLM invites the public to provide input during a 30-day public comment period on the Draft Environmental Assessment, unsigned Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), and Draft Business Plan. A public comment period on the draft Environmental Assessment unsigned Finding of No Significant Impact, and the draft Business Plan is open from July 28 through August 27, 2020. The BLM will also offer a virtual Zoom meeting on this project on August 6th at 6 p.m. Mountain Time.”
