Meta, the Title sponsor of this year’s ShopFest in Eagle Mountain, is a company that has been actively involved in developing the Cedar Valley community. They have supported Cedar Valley High School and have been instrumental since its establishment in 2019. Meta’s presence in Eagle Mountain dates back to 2018 when they announced the opening of their data center, which plays a crucial role in delivering Meta technologies to billions of people worldwide.
Meta has been a big supporter of the local high school, Cedar Valley High School. Cedar Valley Sentinel reached out to Courtney Johnson the principal of CVHS and this is what she had to say about Meta and their contributions to the community.
“META has continually supported CVHS with several of our STEM programs. We have received computers for students so we could move to our one-to-one student device program, iPads for our life skills classes, robotics equipment, funding for the barn construction project, and more recently, a hydroponic Freght Farm where students will grow food in a hydroponic shipping container farm.
Freight Farm:
Our ecology classes will dive into sustainable farming that impacts the environment. Biology and greenhouse classes will learn about the mechanics of hydroponic farming and will explore the science behind the farm. Business marketing students will learn about how to bring farm to table marketing strategies. Accounting students will make cost analysis in regards to profit and loss studies. Overall, we want our students to be part of solutions that will revolutionize local access to food. Most of all, adding the Freight Farm will help us provide additional hands-on learning opportunities for our students. We will have our grand opening this coming fall of 2023 where we will showcase the farm.
Aviation:
Another Meta partnership along with CTE, and “Fly Utah” Aviation Education is our aviation program. Our aviation program is one of the largest in the country. Students can earn their associates degree in Aviation Science from UVU while at Cedar Valley High with the idea that after graduation, students may opt to use their tuition for flight instruction rather than paying for classes at the university that they already had at CVHS. What is incredible, is that our aviation students have the potential to be employable in the aviation field in a couple short years post graduation. “
