Angelina Washburn
I have been married for 18 years and have 6 children with one in Heaven. I have lived in Utah County all my life. I am a chef, specializing in pâtisserie. I am an owner of a software/data analytics firm with global clients and also an animal boarding facility close by in Cedar Fort. This bodes well because we own a lot of fun animals.
I have a passion for basketball and play recreationally several times a week with a group of amazing women. I have been serving as a county and state delegate for 5 years and counting. I love getting to know and studying candidates and elected officials all over the state of Utah.
I have a strong desire to create a community where kids and teenagers can have a strong sense of belonging. With suicide rates going up I want to help kids develop confidence in themselves and their futures. I want them to see beyond today and to see what they can do and create.

Questions and Answers
Why are you running for city council and what motivated you to get involved in local government?
1. As a small business owner I have seen how Eagle Mountain has grown and transitioned in its residential vs business mindsets. I would love to work in creating processes and systems to make it work well for everyone. I would love small business owners to flourish in Eagle Mountain and I think the city can help. It would benefit both. 2. I really want to increase city/community initiatives for youth. I think this should be a top-pillar focus for the city. Engaging youth and their families will help to foster a purpose/responsibility in the community. Issues of bullying, suicide, depression, etc… can be helped when youth have confidence in themselves and what they are becoming. 3. Roads. Eagle Mountain is growing so fast that our roads are not able to keep up. I would love to chase funding for road projects. Work with city planning as well as county, state, federal, and private programs to find more funding options and arrange infrastructure plans.
What relevant experience or skills do you bring to the role of city council member?
I am a very hard worker. I love to dig in and get things done, to improve life. I lost my daughter to suicide, I have a personal urgency to help our youth with today’s struggles. I know how to get things moving. I work well with people.
What do you see as the most pressing issues facing our city, and how do you plan to address them?
Our city is growing too fast and forgetting about the needs of the citizens. The roads can’t handle the growth. The greatest need is balance in a fast-growing community.
How do you plan to engage and involve the community in decision-making processes?
We need better communication between the city, the planning committee, and the citizens. The majority of people don’t have time to go to meetings and keep up with everything going on. We need more meetings that can be attended online, and polling opportunities through social media and email.
What is your stance on fiscal responsibility and budget management? How do you plan to balance the city’s financial needs with the expectations of residents?
I am opposed to debt for municipalities. In the form of bonds or loans. I recognize that the needs of the city outpace revenue because we are heavily residential. Budgets should be adhered to strictly and approved by supermajority votes. Special interest initiatives can be supported by the city and city council but should find funding through other efforts. City council members should be prepared to assist and guide committees or individuals in the process to get the funds for worthwhile initiatives.
What is your position on sustainable and environmentally-friendly initiatives, such as renewable energy, waste management, or green spaces?
I love new innovative ways in which we can grow and protect our environment and other growth issues. I am open to reviewing and looking at other solutions.
How do you plan to address affordable housing challenges in our city? Are there specific policies or initiatives you would advocate for?
I understand that the cost of housing is a bigger problem than anything our city has direct control over. I believe it is the pressure needed for our federal government. The reality is that all things becoming more expensive.
What is your stance on economic development and attracting businesses to our city? How do you plan to promote local entrepreneurship and job growth?
I would love to make Eagle Mountain a place where small and larger businesses can flourish!! I would love more opportunities for businesses to get their name out and recognized, and more opportunities to highlight and promote our own businesses in Eagle Mountain, all of this means more help from the city to our business owners and collaboration on various media platforms.
How do you prioritize public safety and community well-being? What ideas or strategies do you have for enhancing public safety and building stronger neighborhoods?
I think becoming a close community and getting to know each other is important in creating safety. As we get to know each other and learn more about each other we have more patience and desire to protect one another. More community events are great for reaching those goals. We would benefit if we gave more resident responsibility through city-sponsored committees and action groups. These groups would report to and get support from the city. These efforts will increase community engagement and provide opportunities to tie the community together.
How do you plan to collaborate and work with other council members and community stakeholders to achieve your goals?
Open communication and creating an agenda for those things that I want to get done with end goal dates. I would love to be able to have other members’ opinions and ideas brought to life as we work together.
Can you provide examples of situations where you have successfully built consensus or resolved conflicts in a diverse and potentially divided community?
Not to the scale of what I could do in this position. Locally, I am on an HOA committee in which we plan neighborhood events. Despite large disagreements, we were able to pull together the whole HOA for several events. I have held to and continued pushing well past the years of complicating factors that divided the committee.
What is your vision for our city in the next five to ten years? How do you plan to involve residents in shaping that vision?
There is so much we can do with the growth coming out here. We are positioned with the space and opportunity to consider hosting and inviting outside of our community. Regional events and activities would really put us on the map. We need road planning and areas to prepare for that kind of influx. I would love to see our small businesses able to advertise and be seen. I would love to see more of our youth getting involved in city planning, city events, and other important roles.
