Elementary Students Artwork on Display at the State Capital
The Utah State Capitol recently had its Centennial Celebration. The event was held at the State Capital from October 3-7, 2016. The event included musical numbers from a number of schools around Utah. The event had a special open house that included a lot of activities for kids and their families. The final portion of the celebration was a Formal GALA.
Another part of the celebration was the invitation to elementary schools to have students send them pictures to express what the capital building and the state of Utah mean to them. Hidden Hollow Elementary answered the call for talent and sent some of their students artwork to be displayed. There were several displays setup through out the capital, and some of the artwork is still on display. I recently visited the State Capital and was walking around the Governors Hall, and was able to admire some of the artwork from Eagle Mountain.
The artwork was from the Art Students that were being taught art skills by Mrs. Mattinson. Mrs. Mattinson explains how the art came to find its way to the State Capital.
“A flyer was sent to me from the Utah State Capitol Building Centennial Celebration Committee asking for entries of art for students to express what the capitol building and/or Utah means to them. Each student was given the outline of the state of Utah and they came up with ideas of things they love to do with their family, or things they love about living in Utah. History, landscape, etc. was also a part of their inspiration. The artwork was sent in and displayed for the capitol’s centennial celebration.”
Here are a few of the artwork that was submitted submitted by Mr.s Mattinson’s art students..
Note: I have to apologize for the quality of these pictures. The pictures were taken during the March for Life and I was unable to set them up like I would of liked to.
