One of Colby’s favorite quotes:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
-Reinhold Niebuhr
My wife, Adelle, and I have been married since March of 2008 and have one little boy, Levi.Q: What do you do in your free time?
I enjoy playing guitar, video games, and watching Sci-Fi.
The hardest thing I have had to do is go against my friends and residents on an issue where the alternative would have been legal action for the city. Despite disappointing many individuals, protecting the financial assets of all residents needed to be the primary concern. It was difficult because I wanted to make the same decision as the residents, everything in me wanted to…except I knew I couldn’t. I had only one decision to make and I made it. I still believe I made the right decision.Q: What has been the most enjoyable part of being an elected official?
I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to walk in the parade, visit with scouts and play my “Budget Game” with them, and the opportunity to meet many of the great people who make up Eagle Mountain.Q: If you could magically change on thing in the City, what would that be, and why?
This is hard, I have two. If I could magically change one thing in the city it would either be to build out the roads for the foreseeable future (we have tremendous need) or to go back and time and change some of the agreements that made high density so difficult to deal with in Eagle Mountain.Q: What are the biggest challenges you see the City facing in the next several years?
Infrastructure; specifically roads. We grow so fast that our impact fees have a hard time keeping up. Our struggle will be making sure we can do the best on our roads with the resources we have as well as coalition building with other entities like MAG and UDOT (Utah Department of Transportationto get our necessary projects funded.MAG = Mountainland Association of Governments UDOT = Utah Department of Transportation Q: Why Eagle Mountain? Of all of the places you could of picked to put down roots, why did you pick Eagle Mountain?
Adelle and I moved to Eagle Mountain because of the suburban/rural feel with all the necessities of life. I like to call it Little Logan, as it reminds me of Cache Valley. It’s small enough to have that feel, but large enough to have the stability of a rooted community.I want to thank Colby for spending the time answering my questionnaire. I will continue to add other elected officials answers soon.
